The owner of a 2015 Hyundai Tucson contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen.  The Hyundai was stolen from the victim’s residence in the area of Southern and Juan Tabo.  The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Hyundai Tucson.

Shortly after the activation, officers with Albuquerque PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Tucson with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The Tucson was determined to be mobile and appeared to be scouting for the next stolen vehicle.

Officers and an Auto Theft Unit Detective tracked the Tucson through multiple area commands until it came to a stop in the area of Central and 63rd Street.  As officers entered the area the occupants of the Tucson took off running on foot.  The Tucson was recovered and processed for evidence.  The offenders punched the driver door lock and ignition but no other obvious signs of damage were observed.

The owner was notified of the recovery and responded to the scene.  The owner told officers he knew he had LoJack in the Tucson and was very glad he had it installed.  The owner was able to take possession of the Tucson and drive it away from the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Hyundai Tucson in July 2016 at Hertz Car Sales in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
