The owner of a 2007 Nisan Altima contacted the Torrance Police Department to report her vehicle had been stolen.  The owner realized after the theft that she had dropped her vehicle’s key fob outside her residence.

A short while later LASD Airship 8 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Airship 8 tracked the Nissan to a county area of Los Angeles, inside LASD Century station’s coverage area.  Airship 8 was tracking the mobile Nissan when the driver pulled over and fled from the vehicle.  Airship 8 requested assistance from Century station patrol deputies.  When the deputies arrived in the area Airship 8 directed them to the driver.  The patrol deputies were able to detain the driver/suspect.  The deputies found the driver in possession of the Nissan’s key.

The deputies questioned the suspect, who claimed he was returning the Nissan to a friend from whom he borrowed the vehicle.  The suspect was unable to provide an address or street name for the suspect even though he was returning the Nissan.  The suspect also claimed he borrowed the Nissan to go to work that morning, which he started at 10:00 am.  (It was 10:30 am when the deputies stopped him).  The suspect was arrested for the theft of the Nissan, which was recovered undamaged.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Altima in March 2007 at Power Nissan, Torrance CA.
