The owner of a 2001 GMC Sierra contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen.  The owner advised the GMC was stolen from the parking lot of a motel in the area of Gibson and Yale.  The owner further advised the Sierra had a camper shell and an enclosed trailer was attached with their business property inside.  The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the GMC Sierra.

Approximately 30 minutes after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Sierra with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The Officers tracked the LoJack signal to the area of 4th and Menaul.

The Sierra was observed in a parking lot alongside a Chevrolet Tahoe.  The Sierra no longer had its camper shell nor was it attached to the enclosed trailer.  Three subjects were taken into custody and one subject was found to be in possession of a handgun.  Through further investigation the Tahoe was also found to be reported stolen and it contained property from the stolen Sierra.  Both vehicles had damage to the driver door lock and ignition.  A Crime Scene Specialist was requested to the scene to process the stolen vehicles for evidence.  The New Mexico Auto Theft Task Force, consisting of Auto Theft Detectives from Albuquerque PD and New Mexico State Police Auto Theft Agents were called in to assist in the investigation.

The continued investigation resulted in approximate locations for the missing camper shell and trailer.  Officers from the Albuquerque PD Open Space unit assisted in locating the camper shell on the West Mesa open space.  Agents with the NM State Police located the enclosed trailer west of Albuquerque.  The victim was notified of the recovery and was very thankful for the hard work by law enforcement in the investigation and recovery of their business property.
