The owner of a 2001 Honda S20contacted the Hoffman Estates Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from in front of a friends residence in the 700 block of block of Hoffman Estates in a condominium development. Hoffman Estates Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

A short time later Chicago Police and an Illinois State Trooper from the Chicago District picked up the directional signals emanating from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, they tracked the vehicle to the 2000 block of West Lexington Ave in Chicago’s Austin District where the vehicle was recovered in a garage. Owners of the garage stated they leave it open and had no knowledge how the Honda S20 got there. The stolen Honda was recovered and towed to the pound for processing. It was discovered that the Honda’s convertible roof had been cut to gain entry and the ignition had been pulled to start the vehicle. Because of the LoJack system installed in the Honda S20 it was recovered before it could be stripped, re-tagged, or used in a crime. Police investigation into the vehicles theft continues.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda S20 in Feb of 2001 at Anderson Honda in Baltimore Maryland.
