The owners of a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt contacted the Glendale Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen overnight from the assigned parking spot at their apartment complex.  The owners advised that there was approximately $30,000 to $40,000 in cash, jewelry and other property in the vehicle.

The Glendale Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Four minutes later, detectives from Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the auto theft detectives tracked the vehicle to the area of 27th Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Phoenix, approximately nine miles from where the Chevy was stolen.

The vehicle was located unoccupied and surveillance was established.   During the surveillance, a female suspect was identified and taken into custody without incident.  The auto theft detectives obtained a search warrant for the apartment where the suspect was seen at.  Detectives recovered some of the cash, jewelry, and other property that was in the vehicle when stolen.

The female suspect was arrested and booked on several felony charges.  The vehicle was recovered in good condition and processed for evidence.  The vehicle was later returned to the owners.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Cobalt in April 2007 at Midway Chevrolet – Geo, Phoenix, Arizona
