The owners of a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen with the keys by an ex-employee.
The Phoenix Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.
A short while later, troopers from the Arizona Highway Patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the vehicle to the area of 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street, approximately ten miles from where it was stolen from.
The Highway Patrol troopers located the stolen Chevy Avalanche unoccupied and parked on side street in an industrial area. The troopers contacted the Phoenix Police Department, who dispatched officers to the scene. The Phoenix Police Department officers recovered the stolen vehicle and processed it for evidence. The Chevy was impounded and later returned to the owners in good condition. Charges are pending on the known suspect.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Avalanche in September 2006 at Midway Chevrolet – Geo, Phoenix, Arizona.
