The owner of a 2001 GMC Jimmy contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen.  The GMC Jimmy was stolen from the area of Central and Louisiana in the Southeast Area Command.  The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the GMC.

Within minutes after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque PD, flight officers in Air5, Auto Theft Detectives (Albuquerque PD and New Mexico State Police) picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen GMC with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their marked units, undercover vehicles and aircraft.  The GMC was tracked and found to be occupied at a big box store in the area of Interstate 40 and Coors in the Northwest Area Command.

The Auto Theft Task Force and Air5 took over surveillance of the stolen GMC.  The GMC was occupied by three offenders and one of the offenders was immediately recognized as a repeat auto theft offender.  The GMC left the big box store heading westbound and the driver did not negotiate a turn in the roadway resulting in the GMC stopping in the median.  The occupants of the GMC exited the vehicle and a foot chase ensued.  One of the occupants decided to take a route through a golf course but his escape was short lived resulting in his capture.

The GMC was recovered and towed from the scene for safekeeping.  The offenders were captured and never made it to the clubhouse but were instead provided a room at the local county bed and breakfast.  This recovery clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of utilizing multiple resources and communication to capture a repeat offender.

The LoJack® System was installed in the GMC Jimmy in April 2003 at AutoNation Chevrolet Green Acres in Florida.
