The owner of this BMW contacted the Fresno Police Department to report that her vehicle had been stolen from her residence by a known suspect. The Fresno Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

Several hours after the LoJack was activated, a Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Deputy tracked the moving vehicle to the vicinity of Chestnut and Olive avenues in southeast Fresno. The Deputy spotted the vehicle as it drove into a residential area being driven by an adult male. A high risk stop was initiated and the suspect was detained. While awaiting assisting units the suspect became uncooperative and; when he heard approaching police sirens he ran away into the neighborhood. Assisting units established a perimeter and upon searching the area the male suspect was found and taken into custody. The suspect claimed that he was the co-owner of the vehicle but investigation revealed this was not the case. He was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. The vehicle was recovered intact and undamaged; it was stored pending release to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the BMW in January 2001 by BMW of Mountain View in Mountain View, California.
