The owners of a Toyota 4Runner contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen with the keys from a gas station while they were inside the store.

The Phoenix Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

Five minutes later, auto theft detectives from the Glendale Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the detectives tracked the vehicle to the area of 47th Avenue and Ocotillo Road in Glendale.

The stolen Toyota was occupied and mobile.  The detectives conducted a rolling surveillance with the assistance of Phoenix Police Department detectives to a location in Phoenix.  The suspects in the stolen Toyota met up with other subjects in a stolen 2013 Hyundai Sonata.  Both vehicles went mobile again and detectives followed the vehicles to the area of 67th Avenue and Interstate 10 where five juvenile suspects were detained.  Both vehicles were recovered in good condition.  The 2013 Hyundai had recently been stolen in Phoenix during an armed carjacking.  Two of the juveniles were arrested and booked on numerous felony charges.   Both vehicles were impounded for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota 4Runner in September 2000 at Penske Toyota, Downey, California.
