LoJack System Helps Chicago Department Recover Stolen Toyota Highlander Arresting an Offender for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.

The owner of a 2009 Toyota Highlander contacted the Chicago Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from in front of their work location in the 100 block of east 43rd street in Chicago’s Grand Boulevard neighborhood as they were unloading packages from the running vehicle. The Chicago Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later officers from Chicago’s Near North District and the Illinois State Police picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers, and troopers tracked the vehicle to the 600 block of west Division Street in Chicago’s Goose Island neighborhood where the stolen Toyota was observed parked and occupied. As police approached the vehicle the occupant exited the stolen Toyota and fled. A foot chase ensued with the offender fleeing through a resident’s open back door and out the front door temporally escaping pursuit. A be on the lookout from the State Police and an All Call from Chicago was issued and the suspect was soon captured close to the scene. A video from the victim’s work place was obtained and used to positively identify the suspect as the same person who stole the victims 2009 Toyota. The offender was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and criminal trespass to residence.

The stolen 2009 Toyota Highlander was recovered and returned to the victim before the end of her work day undamaged before it could be stripped, cloned, re-tagged, or used in a crime. The victim was very happy in the LoJack system installed in her vehicle and its performance in the recovery of her stolen car.
