LoJack System Helps Chicago Police Recover Stolen Honda Civic

The owner of a 2011 Honda Civic contacted the Chicago Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from in front of their son’s residence in the 1100 block of N Sacramento neighborhood in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. The victim stated they were delivering some laundry and must have mistakenly left their vehicles keys in the ignition. Chicago Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the stolen Honda Civic.

Minutes after the Honda was entered as stolen an officer from Chicago’s Lawndale District picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft approximately two miles west of were the Honda was stolen.. The officer was able to determine the vehicle was in motion and called a flash message on the vehicle directing other squads into the area to look for the stolen Honda. The vehicle was located on the 1000 block of North Hamlin Ave running with the doors open. Officers on scene surmised the occupants of the stolen Honda Civic observed the increased police presence in the area and abandoned the vehicle.

The vehicle was recovered and Chicago Police contacted the victim who arrived on scene to take possession of her Honda. The Honda Civic was recovered before it could be damaged, cloned re-tagged or used in a crime and returned to a very grateful owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the in Honda Civic at Castle Honda in Morton Grove, Illinois in April of 2011.
