The owner of a 2018 Volkswagen Jetta contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen.  The owner advised they are the victim of a fraudulent purchase and the Federal Bureau of Investigation was investigating the caper.  The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen Jetta.

Within minutes after the activation, an Albuquerque PD Auto Theft Unit Detective picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Jetta with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their undercover vehicles.  The detective initiated an active track on the Jetta and notified the FBI agent in charge of the investigation of his activity.

The LoJack signal was tracked into a residential neighborhood in the area of 2nd Street and Desert Road.  The Jetta was located at a multi-residence property and backed into a parking space.  The Jetta’s state issued temporary permit had been removed and replaced with a counterfeit temporary permit.  This is often times done in an attempt to conceal the vehicle’s stolen status from law enforcement.  The FBI agent in charge was notified of the recovery and requested the Jetta to be towed for evidence collection.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Jetta in February 2018 at University Motors Mazda and Volkswagen in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
