The owners of a 2003 GMC Sierra contacted the El Mirage Police Department to report that their vehicle had just been stolen from the driveway of their residence. The owner had started the GMC Sierra and left it running while going back inside the residence. The owner saw an unknown male on the property and went outside to confront the male subject. The unknown male jumped into the GMC pickup and sped off.

The El Mirage PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the GMC.

Ten minutes later troopers from the Arizona Highway Patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen GMC with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the GMC to a neighborhood near Grand Avenue and Sunny Lane in Surprise.

The troopers located the stolen GMC pickup unoccupied, parked on a side street. The suspect was not observed in the area. Officers from the El Mirage PD responded to the scene and processed the vehicle for evidence. The GMC pickup was recovered in good condition and returned to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the GMC Sierra in March 2003 at Midway Chevrolet in Phoenix, Arizona.
