A resident of Portland discovered his Jeep was stolen from his residence and reported it to the Portland Police Bureau who verified the report and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Jeep.

Less than one hour later, an officer from the West Linn Police Department and a deputy from Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, equipped with a LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC), picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Jeep. They quickly located the Jeep in the driveway of a residence located in the 15500 block of SE Kaslin Way near Milwaukie. This residence was known to the officers from previous contacts regarding stolen vehicles. Surveillance was set up on the residence and in a short period two suspects who were the occupants of the residence drove by the deputies in a truck then turned around and came back. The truck was stopped and both suspects were questioned after being advised of their rights.

One of them admitted direct involvement in the theft of the Jeep. He was arrested and booked into the Clackamas County Jail. The Jeep was returned to the registered owner who purchased it as a used vehicle and was not aware it was equipped with LoJack.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Jeep Grand Cherokee in April 2006 at Ron Tonkin Dodge in Gladstone, Oregon.
