The owner of a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta called the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen. The owner advised their residence was burglarized and their Volkswagen was stolen as a result of the burglary. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen Jetta.

In just 18 minutes after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Jetta with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft. The Jetta was tracked to a residential neighborhood in the area of Cornell and Coal.

The Jetta was observed parked and unoccupied along the curb with the rear window partially rolled down. Officers set up surveillance on the Jetta and when no one returned the Jetta was recovered. The Jetta was processed for evidence and subsequently towed from the scene for safekeeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Jetta in September 2016 at University Motors Mazda and Volkswagen in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
