The owner of a 2013 Volkswagen Passat contacted the Lockhart Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen. The owner parked his Volkswagen Passat in his driveway and when he returned to it found it missing. The owner had left a second set of car keys in the center console.

The Lockhart PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen.

Later, a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the trooper tracked the stolen Volkswagen to a parking lot where he found three suspects sleeping inside it. They were arrested. The Volkswagen was recovered in good condition.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Passat in March 2015 at Leif Johnson Ford in Austin, Texas.
