The owner of a 2004 BMW 330Ci parked their car in the parking lot of an apartment complex to visit a friend. They believed that they locked the BMW and took the key fob with them. When they returned to where they believed they had parked their BMW, they discovered it missing. There was no evidence of the theft of the BMW in the area. The owner was also unaware that their BMW was equipped with a LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System. The owner contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to report their BMW stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers, which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the 2-door coupe.

Shortly after activation while on routine patrol, an Orange County SO K-9 deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC), that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles and aircraft. The deputy began tracking the stolen BMW by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the 330Ci 2-door coupe LoJack signal emanating from a garage in the 5200 block of Golf Club Parkway just blocks away from where it was stolen. The deputies contacted the occupants of the house who immediately refused entry to the garage. After a while the deputies were given permission to enter the garage where they located the stolen BMW. The occupant of the house mentioned that a “friend” had brought the BMW over so that a mechanic could fix it. The BMW was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2004 BMW 330Ci in March 2005 at United BMW-Roswell in Duluth, Georgia.
