The owner of a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe called the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Tahoe.

An officer with the Albuquerque PD was on his way home after his shift and picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Tahoe with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officer requested additional units to assist in searching for the stolen Tahoe in the area of Carlisle and I-40. Officers located the Tahoe in a hotel parking lot backed into a parking space. Officers verified the Tahoe was stolen and unoccupied. Officers checked with hotel personnel and viewed video surveillance of the parking lot. The offender was observed to have parked the Tahoe and ran from the scene prior to officers arriving into the area.

The owner was notified of the recovery and responded to the scene. The owner was reunited with their Tahoe and was able to drive it from the scene. The Tahoe was recovered quickly preventing the offender to returning to the Tahoe and using it to commit additional crimes.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Tahoe in July 2001 at Van Chevrolet in Scottsdale, Arizona.
