The owners of a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The Harris County SD personnel verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet pickup.

A short while later a Texas State Trooper picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet pickup with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. The trooper determined the Chevrolet was on the move and requested air support from State aircraft unit 102. At the same time a deputy from the Harris County SD overtook the stolen pickup. As the deputy attempted to stop the Chevrolet it began to flee from officers. The air ship continued to follow the Chevrolet directing the patrol officers of its location. Shortly thereafter the pickup turned into a dead end street, drove through several yards finally coming to rest when it hit a building. The two occupants fled on foot, the driver was quickly taken into custody but officers were unable to locate the second suspect at that time. The air crew returned to the airport and the crew began to review the film of the incident. The crew located a building where it appeared the passenger had disappeared. The K-9 unit began a search of the area and was able to locate the second suspect hiding under the building.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in March 2001 at Powell Chevrolet.
