A new car dealership contacted the El Cerrito Police Department to report that a 2013 Honda Accord had been stolen by a female subject by means of fraud.

The El Cerrito PD investigated and verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Accord.

A short time later, a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department deputy on patrol in the Saratoga area picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) which are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputy tracked the stolen Honda to a gas station at Saratoga/Sunnyvale Road and Thelma Avenue, where he observed the stolen vehicle with three occupants. Contact was made with the occupants and the female driver was taken into custody for possession of a stolen vehicle. A male subject in the Honda was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant and the third subject was released at the scene. The investigation into the fraudulent “purchase” and identity of the suspect is continuing.

The Honda was recovered and towed/stored to be returned to the car dealership.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Accord in June 2017 by the dealership in El Cerrito, California.
