The owners of a 1998 Honda Accord contacted the Glendale Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Accord.

A short while later officers from the Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck division were informed by LAPD Air-3 flight officers that they picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Air-3 and the ground unit tracked the Honda to Alma St north of Whittier Blvd and located the unoccupied vehicle parked at the curb. The officers set up surveillance and within 10 minutes saw the Honda moving north on Alma St. They began following the Honda requesting back up when the suspect initiated a pursuit. The suspect exited the Honda and fled on foot. The suspect was apprehended after about 40 feet and due to his injuries was arrested and taken to the county hospital for medical treatment.

Felony Evading, Possession of Burglar Tools and Grand Theft Auto charges are pending against the suspect. It should be noted that during the past 4 years, this 1998 Honda Accord has been stolen, tracked and recovered all four times by LoJack.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 1998 Honda Accord in April 1998 at 1st Honda in Simi Valley, California.
