The owner of a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to report his vehicle was stolen. The owner had advertised his Dodge for sale and had a male and female respond to look at the Dodge. The victim allowed the subjects to test drive his Dodge around the block. When the subjects did not return his Dodge after several hours the victim reported the theft to the LASD Lakewood. The LASD Lakewood verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge.

Only 27 minutes after entering the Dodge as stolen an LASD airship picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the LASD airship tracked the Dodge to the city of Compton. The airship was able to locate the Dodge as it was traveling through the city of Compton. The airship requested the assistance of the LASD Compton patrol deputies. The patrol deputies responded and were able to locate the Dodge as it was still mobile in the city of Compton. The deputies were following the Dodge while waiting for additional patrol deputies to assist. While doing so the female driver voluntarily pulled over. The deputies detained the two subjects. Both subjects were interviewed and both stated they were test driving the Dodge for the past several hours. Both subjects were arrested and the Dodge was recovered.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Ram in April 2005 at Clippinger Chrysler Jeep Dodge in West Covina, California.
