The owners of a 2012 Honda Accord contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen. The LAPD Southwest verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

Only 41 minutes later the LAPD Airship 18 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Airship 18 tracked the Honda to the city of Compton. Airship 18 found the Honda parked with a subject on a bicycle next to the Honda. When Airship 18 flew overhead the subject rode away on the bicycle. The airship followed the subject and requested the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Compton patrol deputies to respond. The deputies were able to locate the subject a few streets away from the Honda and detained him. The deputies brought the subject back to the Honda and confirmed it was reported stolen. The deputies questioned the subject and he admitted he had stolen the Honda. The subject said he intended to sell the Honda to obtain money to visit family in West Virginia. The deputies arrested the subject and recovered the undamaged Honda.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Accord in June 2012 at Sierra Autocars in Monrovia, California.
