The owner of a 2003 Dodge Caravan parked their van in front of their home. When the owner awoke the next morning and attempted to use their Dodge to go to work they discovered it missing. They contacted the Davie Police Department to report their Dodge stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers, which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge. The owner bought the van just a few months ago and didn’t know that it had a LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System installed in it.

Immediately upon activation, while on routine patrol, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Caravan on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles and aircraft. The deputy began tracking the stolen Dodge by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the van parked in an apartment complex parking lot near NW 46th Avenue and Bailey Road. Surveillance was established on the Dodge. After several hours the surveillance was terminated with negative results. The van was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and released to the owner, who responded to the scene. The owner was advised that their Dodge was recovered with LoJack and was extremely happy that the original owner had it installed on their van. A check of the area revealed two other Dodge Caravans to have been stolen as well. It was a good day for the sheriff’s office, recovering three vehicles in the same area with one LoJack® System.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2003 Dodge Caravan in November 2002 at Thompson Dodge in Baltimore, Maryland.
