The owner of a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado called the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen from her apartment complex in the area of Indian School and I-25. The owner advised she went out to a local watering hole with a family member while leaving her Silverado at home. The two left their purses in the trunk of the car while they went inside the establishment. When they left the club they discovered their car was broken into and the offenders absconded with their purses which contained the keys to the Silverado. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Silverado.

The Albuquerque PD Auto Theft Detectives were actively tracking a mobile stolen Chevrolet Tahoe, also equipped with LoJack, when they picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Silverado with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their undercover vehicles and aircraft. The Auto Theft Detectives split up to track both stolen vehicles and enlisted the support of Air-5 to assist in tracking.

The Albuquerque PD Auto Theft Detectives set up surveillance on the Silverado in the event the offenders would return. After surveillance was conducted the Silverado was recovered at the scene and the owner was notified. The Silverado was subsequently towed from the scene for safekeeping and for evidence processing.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in January 2017 at Galles Chevrolet in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
