The owner of a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS contacted the Oakland Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The Chevrolet Camaro was taken from the office parking lot of the owner’s employment in the 8100 block of Edgewater Street between 12:15 am and 2:30 am.  The Oakland PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Camaro.

A short time later, an officer from the Alameda Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Camaro with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) which are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen Camaro was tracked to Oleander Avenue near Holly Street, where the vehicle was found parked at the curb, unoccupied.  Based on prior investigations and recoveries, it is believed the suspects parked the stolen Camaro at this location to determine if the police would find it and when several hours had passed, they would return to take it to a secondary location where it would be stripped.  Of particular interest was the manufacturer installed vehicle monitoring / tracking system had been disabled by the thieves.

The Camaro was recovered and the owner responded to the scene to take possession of his vehicle. The San Francisco Bay Area has recently seen a marked increase in the theft of these late model, high performance Camaros, which are typically being recovered stripped of their engines, transmissions, interiors tires/wheels and suspension parts. The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was instrumental in preventing this owner’s Camaro from becoming one of these statistics.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Camaro SS in July 2014 at FH Daily Chevrolet in San Leandro, California.
