The owner of a 2013 Honda CRV contacted the San Leandro Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The San Leandro PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda CRV.
A short time later, investigators from the Alameda County Regional Auto Theft Task Force picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) which are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the investigators tracked the stolen Honda to a parking lot behind a barber shop in the 16000 block of East 14th Street, in the unincorporated area of San Leandro, where they found the stolen vehicle unoccupied. The task force investigators setup surveillance on the Honda and observed a pickup truck arrive and park next to the stolen Honda. A male and female then exited the truck and got into the stolen Honda. When the investigators began to approach the stolen CRV, both subjects exited the vehicle and fled into the business through a back door. Both subjects were quickly taken into custody by the investigators. Both subjects were known to the investigators from prior vehicle theft related offenses. Both were arrested and booked for possession of a stolen vehicle.
The Honda was recovered and towed/stored to be returned to the owner.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2013 Honda CRV in April 2014 at Honda of Hayward in California.
