The owner of a 2004 Nissan Murano parked their car in front of their home. The next morning when they attempted to use the Nissan they discovered it missing. They contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report their Nissan stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan. The owner advised that the keys were in the Nissan as they use the key fob to unlock the door.

Later that morning, while on routine patrol, a Palm Beach County SO sergeant picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Murano on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles and aircraft. The sergeant advised their dispatcher that they were at Haverhill Road and Okeechobee Boulevard and that the Nissan was traveling south from that location. The sergeant began tracking the stolen Nissan from an area near Elmhurst Road and Haverhill Road by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. The Nissan was located in an apartment complex parking lot in the 5100 block of Elmhurst Road by another deputy, who responded to the area to help in the search. A touch of the hood of the Nissan revealed that the vehicle had just arrived at that location. The Nissan was processed for evidence. The SUV was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and released to the owner who responded to the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2004 Nissan Murano in November 2004 at West Palm Beach Nissan in West Palm Beach, Florida.
