The owner of a 2004 Ford F250 was home and had looked outside their window. Approximately an hour and a half later they went outside and discovered their truck missing. They contacted the Miami Shores Police Department to report their Ford stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford. The owner had no idea that their truck was equipped with a LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System.

Recovered Vehicle – Two Arrests

Immediately upon activation, while on routine patrol, a North Miami Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen F250 on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC), that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officer began tracking the stolen Ford by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. Simultaneously officers from the Miami Shores PD and Miami-Dade PD were tracking the Ford as well. The officers, along with their backup observed the Ford near NW 119th Street and NW 6th Avenue. They cautiously followed the Ford. At NW 7th and NW 114th Street the driver stopped the Ford, exited the truck and both subjects fled on foot. One subject was being chased by a Miami Shores PD officer. That suspect refused the commands of the officer, whereupon the officer deployed their Taser. The Taser failed to accomplish its goal so the officer along with an MDPD officer had to go hand on hand with the suspect. The suspect was ultimately apprehended. The driver of the Ford was also apprehended by an MDPD officer. The Miami-Dade PD arrested both suspects, who were eventually transported to the Dade County Jail. The truck was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and ultimately released to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2004 Ford F250 in January 2005 at AutoWay Ford St. Petersburg in Clearwater, Florida.
