The owner of a 2011 Toyota 4-Runner lent his “girlfriend” his truck in the morning. She was supposed to pick him up at work later that afternoon. The “girlfriend” never arrived at the owner’s workplace. The owner made numerous phone calls to his “girlfriend” but met with negative results. The owner got a ride home. Upon arrival he discovered all of his “girlfriend’s” property missing. The owner texted his “girlfriend” who responded that she was leaving for Puerto Rico. She told the owner that the Toyota was at the airport. Since there was no report of the Toyota being towed from the airport at this time the owner contacted the Palm Beach County SO to report their vehicle stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers, which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

The next morning, while in route to work, a Hollywood Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen 4-Runner on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officer began tracking the stolen Toyota by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the sport utility vehicle at a tow yard in Dania Beach. It was learned at that time that the Toyota had been towed from the Fort Lauderdale International Airport and the vehicle was now in Dania Beach; the officer requested that Broward County Sheriff’s Office respond to recover the Toyota. The SUV was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and left at the police impound yard for safekeeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2011 Toyota 4-Runner in September 2012 at Maroone Chevrolet of West Dade in Miami, Florida.
