The owner of a 2005 Land Rover Range Rover was forced out of his vehicle at gunpoint, in the 1700 block of 167th street in Hazel Crest, by two offenders who had just crashed their stolen vehicle fleeing an armed robbery. The Hazel Crest Police Department responded to the scene, verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Land Rover.

Shortly after the Land Rover was activated multiple police departments equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) picked up the silent and directional signal being broadcast from the stolen Land Rover. The Chicago Police Department/Cook County helicopter radioed a last known location for the hijacked vehicle’s signal before having to depart the area due to incoming storms.  The Illinois State Police relocated to the last known location and picked up the silent and directional signal from the stolen Land Rover. The Illinois State Trooper followed the LoJack signal to the 14000 block of Dorchester in Dolton were the stolen Range Rover was recovered parked and unoccupied. The Hazel Crest PD was summoned to the scene and towed the Land Rover for processing. Police investigation into this armed carjack auto theft continues.

Due to LoJack the owner of this Land Rover had his vehicle recovered hours after it was entered as stolen. The Land Rover was recovered before it could be damaged, stripped, cloned, re-tagged or used in a crime.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Land Rover Range Rover in January 2007 at Laurel Jaguar of Tinley Park in Illinois.
