The owner of a 2007 Lexus ES350 contacted the Chicago Park Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from the 1500 block of West Howard Ave in Chicago’s Rogers Park far north side neighborhood. The victim, who resides in New Jersey, stated he had left the fob to his Lexus inside the car.  The Chicago Park PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lexus ES350.

Shortly after the Lexus was activated the Chicago PD units in Chicago’s Summerdale and Rogers Park Districts equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) picked up the silent and directional signal being broadcast from the stolen Lexus.  The Chicago PD officers determined the Lexus was in the area and moving issued a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) for the wanted vehicle.  The stolen Lexus was observed by a sergeant from the Rogers Park District who began to follow the stolen vehicle and vector in squads to his location.  The Lexus was signaled to stop in the 6500 block of North Sheridan Rd and attempted to flee but due to the number of squad cars in the area was boxed in. Two offenders fled on foot and were immediately captured by responding units. A pistol was recovered from one of the offenders. Both offenders are known gang members and police on scene surmised that the offenders had been circling the area looking for a rival gang member to shoot. The offenders were charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Due to LoJack the owner of this 2007 Lexus ES350 had his vehicle recovered hours after it was entered as stolen. The Lexus was recovered before it could be stripped, cloned, re-tagged or used in a crime.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Lexus ES350 in July 2006 at Prestige Lexus in Ramsey, New Jersey.
