The owners of a 2001 GMC Yukon contacted the Livonia Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence overnight.

The Livonia PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the GMC.

A short while later troopers from the Michigan State Police picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen GMC with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the GMC to a remote street in a residential area of Detroit. It appeared that the suspects had parked it there to “cool off.”

The stolen GMC had minor damage to the steering column as a result of the theft. The GMC was impounded and later returned to the owner. Because of the quick recovery the suspects did not have enough time to strip it or use it to commit additional crimes.

The LoJack® System was installed in the GMC Yukon in February 2001 at Penn Pontiac GMC Truck in Baltimore, Maryland.
