The owner of a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen. The owner had pulled up to a convenience store in the 800 block of East Desert Inn and went inside leaving the Volkswagen running. When the owner came back outside he found the Volkswagen to be missing.

A police officer verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen.

23 minutes later officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.

Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Volkswagen to the 2100 block of North Lamb where they found it being driven by a male. The officers were able to safely conduct a felony car stop and take the driver into custody. The driver was the same person seen on surveillance at the convenience store who took the Volkswagen. The driver was arrested for the theft of the Volkswagen and taken to jail. The Volkswagen was recovered in perfect working order and returned back to the very happy owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Jetta in June 2004 at Hiley Volkswagen in Arlington, Texas.
