The owners of a 2013 Toyota Corolla contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen with the keys from a parking lot.

The Phoenix PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota was picked up with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen Toyota was tracked to the area of 75th Avenue and Thomas Road.

The Toyota was located unoccupied and backed into a parking spot at a fast food restaurant.  Several marked patrol units from the Phoenix PD responded to the area.  A few minutes later, the suspect was observed getting into the stolen Toyota and driving through the parking lot.  The Phoenix PD officers in marked police vehicles conducted a high risk felony stop on the stolen Toyota in the parking lot.  The suspect was detained without incident.  The Toyota was processed for evidence and the suspect was interviewed.  The ignition keys were located with the Toyota.  The suspect was arrested and booked for the vehicle theft.  The Toyota was recovered in good condition and later returned to the owners.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Corolla in May 2013 at AutoNation Toyota Cerritos in California.
