The owner of a 2006 Dodge Durango contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen. The owner had stopped early in the morning at a gas station on the 3600 block of West Tropicana to get gas. As he was pumping gas, he was approached by a male who pointed a gun at him and demanded the keys to the Durango. The owner complied and the robber got into the Durango and left.
A police officer verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Durango.
A short while later officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.
Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Dodge to the parking lot of a business near the intersection of Rock Springs and Vegas. The Dodge was located unoccupied. The Dodge was sealed up and towed to the crime lab where it will be processed for evidence.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Durango in March 2006 at Dodgeland USA in Las Vegas, Nevada.
