The owner of a 2007 Mercedes Benz C230 went to a local “watering hole” to spend an evening. While there they met a “friend.” They became involved in conversation whereupon the owner disclosed that they were driving a Mercedes. Upon showing their new found “friend” the keys, the “friend” grabbed them and left for the restroom. Shortly thereafter the owner realized that they were missing the keys to their Mercedes. They found their “friend,” but the “friend” didn’t remember where they left the keys. The owner walked outside and discovered their Mercedes missing. They contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to report their Mercedes stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers, which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes Benz.

Shortly after activation while on routine patrol, an Orange County SO deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen C230 on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC), that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The deputy began tracking the stolen Mercedes by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the 4-door sedan abandoned and parked in an apartment complex near University Boulevard and Arden Villas Boulevard. The Mercedes was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and released to the owner, who responded to the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2007 Mercedes Benz C230 in February 2007 at Mercedes Benz of Miami in Florida.
