The owner of a 2017 BMW X5 received an alert from LoJack’s Early Warning System advising the owner that their vehicle had been moved without their authorization. The owner responded to where they had left their SUV and discovered it missing. They contacted the Miami Beach Police Department to report their BMW stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers, which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

Later that morning, while on routine patrol, a Miami Beach PD officer  picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen X5 on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC), that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The officer began tracking the stolen BMW by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the sport utility vehicle in the 200 block of 11th Street, Miami Beach. The SUV was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and released to the owner, who responded to the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2017 BMW X5 in October 2016 at Braman BMW in West Palm Beach, Florida.
