The owners of a 2004 Ford Escape contacted the Azusa Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by an unknown suspect. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford Escape.

A short while later the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Aero 24 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the airship tracked the Ford to the area of Olympic and Simons alerting ground units from the East LA Station.  Deputies responded to the area and observed the Ford pulling into a driveway in the 5900 block of Hereford Drive. A male driver and female passenger were observed.  Using department resources, deputies deployed on the Ford taking both individuals into custody without further incident.  The male driver was later booked for the theft of the Ford with priors and the female released. The Ford was stored for safe keeping and later released to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford Escape in November 2003 at Galpin Ford in North Hills, California.
