The owners of an Oldsmobile Alero contacted the Denver Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen.  A police officer contacted the owners, verified the theft and had the vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers.  This routine action on the part of law enforcement automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Oldsmobile.

Less than 15-minutes later officers with the Denver PD were picking up the silent LoJack signal coming from the stolen Oldsmobile with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and police aircraft.

Following the directional and audible cues from the PTCs, these officers tracked the Oldsmobile to the area of East 46th Avenue and Lincoln Street, contacted the vehicle and arrested the driver for auto theft.

The Oldsmobile was recovered undamaged and was returned to the very happy owners who, as it turns out, were subsequent owners of the Alero and were not aware that a previous owner had purchased LoJack to protect it against just this situation.  As the LoJack service doesn’t expire the transponder is activated when reported as stolen to the police.  The unit shuts off when the theft report is canceled.  It remains dormant until and unless it is again reported stolen to the police.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Oldsmobile Alero in April 2008 at Colorado Springs Dodge in Colorado.
