The owner of a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe called the Albuquerque Police Department to report her vehicle was stolen from the area of Wyoming and Menaul. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Tahoe.

Officers and an Auto Theft Detective with the Albuquerque PD along with a deputy from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Tahoe with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles, undercover vehicles and aircraft. Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the officers and detective tracked the Tahoe to a mobile home park in the area of 86th and Central. As the marked unit pulled into the driveway, the stolen Tahoe took off at a high rate of speed. Officers elected not to pursue the Tahoe and instead relied on their LoJack PTC to relocate the Tahoe.

The flight crew from the BCSO helicopter, Metro1, picked up the LoJack signal in the area of Zuni and Dallas and provided this information to the ground units. The Auto Theft Detective and a marked patrol vehicle approached the Tahoe and discovered it was unoccupied. Concerned neighbors advised the officer that two offenders backed in the Tahoe, parked and went through a yard jumping a fence before they arrived on scene.

The Tahoe was recovered and processed for evidence at the scene. The owner was notified and she arrived at the scene to take possession of her Tahoe.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Tahoe in May 2007 via Direct Sales in Los Angeles, California.
