The owner of the Nissan Rogue reports that she recently arrived home in South Philadelphia from a shopping trip and left her vehicle running as she removed her purchases from the vehicle. The Nissan owner further reports that she observed two males enter her vehicle and attempt to drive off with same. In an attempt to stop the Nissan from being stolen, the owner jumped in front of same and was immediately struck by the fleeing vehicle. The Nissan owner was knocked to the ground and sustained numerous injuries. This incident was witnessed by a concerned citizen who gave chase to the perpetrators in the Nissan. The stolen Nissan stopped for a traffic signal and the concerned citizen opened the rear door and entered the vehicle at which time the perpetrators struck the concerned citizen in the face and pushed him out of the vehicle and onto the street.

Police arrived at the scene of the robbery and provided assistance to the injured complainant and concerned citizen while providing Philadelphia Police Radio with information regarding the description of the Nissan and the perpetrators. A police detective arrived on location, conducted interviews and discovered that the Nissan taken in the robbery was equipped with LoJack. The detective arranged for the stolen vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

Suspects Arrested – Involved in 9 Additional Robberies

The Philadelphia PD vehicles equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) fanned out across the area. The officers reported that based on the information from the PTC, the Nissan was apparently on the move in the area of Broad and Locust Streets. Tracking officers soon observed the Nissan traveling on Broad Street. Police began to follow the Nissan in an attempt to find a safe location to stop same away from pedestrian traffic. While following the Nissan police observed same being slowed by traffic at an intersection. As police approached, both males exited the Nissan and fled on foot with uniformed officers in pursuit who subsequently apprehended both males. Both males were transported to the Philadelphia PD South Detective Division and waved their rights agreeing to provide statements to the assigned detective. During the course of the voluntary statements, the males admitted their role in this incident as well as participating in nine (9) additional robberies. The males were charged with numerous violations of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code related to Robbery and Conspiracy.

The Nissan was confiscated for safekeeping and the vehicle owner remains under medical care for her injuries.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Rogue in August 2016 at Nissan of Turnersville in New Jersey.
