The owner of a 2006 Infiniti M45 contacted the Chicago Park Police Department to report that two men had stolen his vehicle from the 1300 block of North Waller Ave in Chicago’s North Austin neighborhood on Chicago’s west side. The victim explained he was out of his Infiniti talking to his girlfriend when he had left his vehicle running in the street. The victim further stated a car drove up with four men inside, two exited that vehicle and jumped into his Infiniti, one displayed a handgun and drove away. The Chicago PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Infiniti.

Within an hour of the Infiniti being activated the Chicago PD units equipped with LoJack’s Police Tracking Computers from the Austin district picked up the silent and directional signal being broadcast from the stolen M45. The Chicago PD following the LoJack signal from the stolen Infiniti determined it was being driven throughout Chicago’s west side. Officers from the Chicago’s Major Auto Theft Investigations Unit equipped with PTC’s tracked the Infiniti to the 3600 block of West Douglas Ave in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. When the officers attempted to stop the Infiniti the offenders abandoned the car throwing a handgun and fleeing on foot. The offenders escaped in the other car which had been involved in the earlier carjacking. The thrown handgun was recovered on scene. The other wanted vehicle was recovered two blocks from the foot chase and towed for investigation. The Chicago PD recovered the stolen Infiniti and towed it for processing. Officers on scene stated they believe the offenders were looking for rival gang members to shoot at when they were stopped due to the LoJack® System installed in the stolen car. Police investigation into this carjack auto theft continues.

Due to LoJack the owner of this 2006 Infiniti M45 had his vehicle recovered two hours after it was entered as stolen. The Infiniti was recovered before it could be stripped, cloned, re-tagged, or used in a crime.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Infiniti M45 in August 2005 at Pinnacle Toyota in Scottsdale, Arizona.
