The owner of the Toyota Camry parked it where he normally parks it on the street where he lives. This was in the Sunset park section of Brooklyn, confines of the 72 precinct. When he went out for the Toyota the next day he found it missing. He immediately called the New York Police Department of the 72 precinct. When the police responded they took a written report. The NYPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Camry.

A short while later the silent LoJack signal was picked up by officers of the 68 precinct in Bayridge Brooklyn. They tracked the signal through various streets of Bayridge; eventually locating the Toyota parked on a commercial street. The officers staked out the Toyota for a short while and when no one came for the vehicle, they took it into custody. The Toyota was recovered with minor damage.

The owner was contacted and notified of the recovery. He was elated that his Toyota was recovered so quickly, especially with minor damage, entry damage and some minor personal property missing.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 1998 Toyota Camry in August 1997 at Bayridge Toyota in Brooklyn, New York.
