The owners of a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze contacted the Santa Maria Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by a known suspect. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Cruze.

A short while later officers from the Santa Maria PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet Cruze with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. They had been alerted by the victim that they had seen the Chevrolet in the area of Depot St.

Suspect Detained, Car Returned Undamaged

Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Chevrolet to the 800 block of Depot and located the vehicle. The officers conducted a felony traffic stop on the Chevrolet taking the lone occupant into custody without further incident. That subject was identified as the person who stole the Chevrolet and was booked into juvenile detention pending a petition for driving a motor vehicle without permission. The undamaged Chevrolet was released to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Cruze in September 2015 at Connell Chevrolet in Costa Mesa, California.
