The owner of a Toyota Sienna recently discovered that the vehicle had had been stolen from the parking spot in front of his residence located in the southern section of Philadelphia. The vehicle owner called 911 and the Philadelphia PD Radio dispatched a uniformed officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and then surveyed the area for the Toyota. When the officer was unable to locate the Toyota a stolen vehicle report was prepared and taken to the Philadelphia PD 3rd District HQ. The stolen vehicle information was then entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later members of the elite Philadelphia PD Aviation Unit were on patrol over the city in a police airship equipped with a LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The aviation officers informed police radio that the LoJack in the airship had activated indicating that a LoJack equipped stolen vehicle was in the area.  The aviation officers were then informed that they were tracking the stolen Toyota.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the aviation officers tracked the signal to the area of south 7th Street and then directed marked police units to the Toyota’s location. Uniformed officers cautiously approached the Toyota and discovered that same was unoccupied.

Due to the fact that this Toyota was stolen from an area that has reported several thefts from vehicles, the Toyota was confiscated and the Philadelphia Police Major Crimes Auto Squad was notified. A detective assigned to the auto squad was assigned to process the Toyota for physical evidence and further investigate this incident.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Sienna in March 2009 at Central City Toyota in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
