The owner of a 2012 Dodge Durango contacted the Columbia Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from their residence.  The Columbia PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge.

A short while later, a deputy with the  Richland County Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The deputy requested additional units to assist in tracking the Dodge.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the deputies tracked the Dodge and located it behind a row of apartments in a high crime neighborhood.  The deputies noted that the hood on the Durango was still warm but did not see anyone around the vehicle.  The Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene and processed the Durango for forensic evidence.  The Durango was recovered and towed to be returned to the owner.
