The owner of a 2016 Toyota Corolla parked their car in the driveway of their home. The next morning when they walked outside they discovered their Toyota missing. The owner had their purse stolen from the community pool a month prior. Inside the purse was a set of keys to the Toyota and a wallet with the owner’s driver’s license. The Toyota was stolen then shortly thereafter as well. They contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report their Toyota stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota. Apparently the thieves, who stole the Toyota the first time, returned and stole it a second time.

Immediately upon activation, a Palm Beach County SO deputy while on routine patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Corolla on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC), that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The deputy began tracking the stolen Toyota by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The deputy marshalled the available resources to assist in the tracking and locating the stolen Toyota.

The PBSO’s “Eagle” (helicopter) and K-9 units responded to the area. The “Eagle” advised the ground deputies where they believed the Toyota was located. The tracking deputy, along with the K-9 units approached the Toyota discovering that it was unoccupied. The 4-door sedan was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency, processed for evidence and released to the owner, who responded to the scene.

It should be noted that a month earlier the Toyota had been stolen and successfully recovered by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

The owner must be ecstatic that they purchased a LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System when they bought their Toyota.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2016 Toyota Corolla in January 2017 at Palm Beach Toyota in West Palm Beach, Florida.
