The owner of a 1996 Ford Mustang parked their car in a parking lot near a local watering hole to spend some time with their friends. Afterwards, the owner was driven home by their roommate as they were too tired to drive. The next day the owner returned to where they believed their Ford was parked and discovered it missing. Thinking that one of their friends had played a joke on them the owner waited until they checked with their friends. Upon learning that none of their friends had anything to do with the disappearance of the Mustang the owner contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report their vehicle stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers which automatically activates the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford.

The next morning, while on routine patrol, a Palm Beach County SO deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mustang on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in law enforcement patrol vehicles, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The deputy began tracking the stolen Ford by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the 2-door coupe in the parking lot of a motel in the 1200 block of Hypoluxo Road, Lantana. The Mustang was recovered, removed from state and federal crime information computer systems by the entering agency and towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 1996 Ford Mustang in November 1995 at Maroone Ford of Margate in Florida.
