The owners of a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that their pickup had been stolen without the keys from the parking lot of their apartment complex sometime overnight.

The Phoenix PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Five minutes later, officers from the Phoenix PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the officers tracked the Chevrolet to the area of Ocotillo Road and the Black Canyon Freeway.

The Phoenix PD officers located the stolen Chevy pickup unoccupied in a parking lot of an apartment complex.  Undercover detectives from the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force responded and set up surveillance on the stolen Chevrolet.  After an extended surveillance, the task force detectives were able to arrest two male suspects.  One of the suspects advised that the other suspect stole the Chevy pickup and that he was being paid $500 to drive the vehicle to Mexico.  Both suspects had prior arrests for auto theft.  Both suspects were booked for vehicle theft.  The Chevy pickup was recovered in good condition with minor damage to the ignition.  The Chevy was processed for evidence and impounded for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in May 2002 at AutoNation Chevrolet Superstition Springs in Mesa, Arizona.
